WOLF “Devil Seed”
Looks like Metal gods are on their side again, as let’s face it: “Legions Of Bastards”, album they released three years ago, wasn’t something some of us wanted to hear. But now everything is fine again, couldn’t be better actually. Wolf needs no special introduction, as they are no beginners, and most maniacs that try to to keep up with what’s going on in Heavy Metal, know them pretty well. Wolf started in the late ’90s with few (ultra cool) demos and singles, then their same titled debut album placed them on the Heavy Metal map for good. They managed to release few really good albums that made many Priest/Maiden/Mercyful Fate lunatics really happy: “Evil Star” from 2004 has almost cult status these days, and “Ravenous” was hailed as one of the very best Heavy Metal albums of 2009. While mentioned “Legions Of Bastards” (2011) was a solid and serious album, it introduced new, much more modern face of the band, that in some parts brough references to acts such as Pantera. So again, not something Wolf die hards wanted to hear. Few years passed by, band’s line up has been refreshed, and now we receive “Devil Seed”. And you know what? It’s probably one of the very best Wolf albums, if not their best one. They gathered all the best things Wolf was known from, all the trademarks, and took them few steps further. “Devil Seed” is like a mine full of great riffs and anthems that you will remember after first listening, anthems that are packed in great sound production, which you would like to hear on the new Iron Maiden album. Heavy Metal is doing really good these days, and to be totally honest, “Devil Seed” is right there, in the top of best Heavy Metal albums of 2014, next to new Judas Priest and Accept works. “Devil Seed” is full of energy, passion and joy, and after few seconds you know these guys love what they do. And they love playing pure Heavy Metal!
